KANSAS CITY, Kansas – The Spartans scored early, and often, and played solid defense in their 54-16 win over Bishop Ward Catholic High School.
Richmond made the last-minute decision to play Ward after COVID-19 stopped the planned game against Fulton.
Richmond opened against Ward with two quick scores – a 32-yard TD run by senior quarterback Keyshaun Elliott and a 4-yard TD pass from Elliott to junior running back Kevin Murphy with 3 minutes, 45 seconds left in the first quarter.
The Cyclones’ offense proved little more than a gentle breeze against the Spartans’ hurricane defense. Elliott ran down senior quarterback Christian Stein, causing and grabbing a fumble. After the turnover, Elliott led Richmond’s offense as quarterback, looking right for junior running back Aidan Ivison, who had slipped past the defense.
