Reconnecting with old friends
It is the time of year when we as Americans remember and celebrate what it means to live in this great nation. With Memorial Day, D-Day, Flag Day and the Fourth of July filling our summer with family outings, barbeque, and fireworks do we ever really take time to honor the people who came before us, whose courage paved the way for the freedoms we have today. I was recently reminded how important this is and wanted to share the story of a childhood neighbor, a real-life Rosie the Riveter.
I had a wonderful childhood growing up in a cul-de-sac full of kids of all ages and neighbors that cared about each other. There was a white house in the curve of the circle that was home to Mr. and Mrs. Wally Crouch, who were raising four of their grandchildren and my childhood friends. As a child I couldn’t wait to run to their house on Saturday mornings and ask if Jamie could play. Our days were filled with building treehouses in the woods, riding bikes and laughter.
