Cultivating new, old friendships after 50
Social media has its positives and its negatives. One of the greatest positives, for me, has been the restoration of longago friendships from grammar school to college.
I went through most of my schooling in a large – by square mileage – city in southern New Jersey. We were about an hour from the Jersey shore, as well as Philadelphia.
I graduated from high school alongside about 750 other students. It was a huge class, especially when you consider the small-sized classes we have here in Ray and Lafayette counties.
I had numerous friends from different areas of school. Mostly, mine were the drama kids – we were the ones who participated in the school plays. I also had one girlfriend with whom I had been friends since we were 7 years old – and we are still friends 59 years later.
We never lost touch through college years, early adulthood, boyfriends, marriages and occasional visits.
High school reunions, like everywhere else, came around every five years. I never had a desire to…
