Answer yes to Richmond’s tax question
Richmond city officials placed a tax issue on the ballot to benefit community residents, and voters will decide whether they agree with the decision April 5 at the polls.
Voters are asked to maintain an existing tax at the same average cost the public pays now. The purpose is the same, too – taking care of the community’s water service.
The city has been addressing various water issues, with the most obvious being regular and annoying water line breaks. Residents driving around town over the past year alone often have seen crews down in holes fixing lines while water flowed down streets.
City officials, like the public, are tired of line breaks. With the old tax at an end, they have put together a $5-million package designed to attack existing breaks, seek out and attack potential breaks and deal with several related issues. Assisting with the program, the city plans to use an additional $1 million in federal aid to increase the city’s water improvement ability.
