Wanda “Bunny” Harris, 65, of Richmond, formerly of New Orleans, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2023, at Avalon View Health and Wellness in Liberty. Wanda was born July 26, 1958, in New Orleans, the daughter of Rosalie Harris Johnson and Donald Hurst. Survivors include: her daughter, Michelle Harris; grandchildren, Keziah Holt, Taraji Harris and Zavion Keyes; siblings, Richard and Agnes Harris, and Kevin and Stacy Johnson; uncle, Eddie Harris; 10 nieces and nephews; and many other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosalie Harris Johnson; brother, Charles Johnson; two uncles, George Harris and Henrey Harris; and two granddaughters, Mariah Holt and Zion Harris.

Wanda attended school in New Orleans and graduated from John McDonough Senior High. She spent most of her life living with her mother Rosalie until her passing in 2013.

Later, she moved to Richmond to be closer to other family members. Wanda was able to reside on her own for the first time, with assistance from Bethal Home Healthcare. She worked briefly at Ideal Industries, where she excelled at assembling various items.

She was a longtime member of the Pentecost Baptist Church while living in New Orleans and was a member of the choir there. In Richmond, she attended St. John’s CME Church when she could and enjoyed singing gospel music with the choir there.

Wanda would entertain herself for hours, playing solitaire and working word circle puzzles. She had other hobbies she enjoyed, including latch hook, painting and crafting many projects. Her favorite TV shows were the many varieties of judge shows. Wanda also loved her outings while under the care of Bethal Home Healthcare for bingo and bowling.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Memorial services were held at noon on Saturday, Oct. 14, 2023, at St. John’s CME Church in Richmond.
