Ruth Hendrix
Ruth Elnora Hendrix, 98, of Richmond passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. Ruth was born Aug. 24, 1925, in Granby, the daughter of Joseph Roosevelt and Mary Elizabeth (Skiles) Cook. She was united in marriage to Milo Everett Hendrix of Richmond on Oct. 23, 1943. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1995. Survivors include her son, Allen Dale Hendrix of Richmond; two daughters, Carolene (Gary) Nolker of Richmond and Marsha (Clarence) Tracy of Liberty; and seven grandchildren, Scott Hendrix, Keri Hendrix, Jason (Lisa) Hendrix, Chad Nolker, Chastidy (Wayne) Loftin, Amber (Rob) Henson and Cory (Denise) Tracy. Other survivors include 12 great-grandchildren: Drake (Tasha) Hendrix, Allen Hendrix, Dylan Hendrix, Skyler Nolker, Hunter Loftin, Dayne Loftin, Hallie Tracy, Karlie Tracy, Kayden Tracy, Grace Tracy, Jade Henson and Rowan Henson. Two great-great-grandchildren, Zona Hendrix and Letty Hendrix; and many special nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Dakota Hendrix; brother, Joseph Millard Cook; and three sisters, Virginia Forson and Norma Loyd, and infant sister Betty Mae Cook.
Ruth was raised and educated in the area of her birth and graduated from Knoxville Elementary School. Ruth and Milo lived on their farm in rural Rayville for more than 51 years. After Milo’s passing, Ruth moved to Richmond.
She was a beloved housewife and momma. Ruth was a member of the St. Paul Christian Union Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and delegate to the Christian Union Council for several years, and later attended the Richmond Christian Union Church. Her hobbies and interests included embroidery, reading her Bible, playing cards, gardening, sewing and doing puzzles. She also enjoyed writing poetry for her family and friends.
Ruth will be dearly missed by all who know her. May she rest in eternal peace. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Christian Fellowship Ministries Church or Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, at Christian Fellowship Ministries Church north of Richmond. Interment will be in Richmond Memory Gardens.
