Ronald L. “Ron” Gibson, 81, of Norborne, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Ron was born on Apr.4, 1941, to Clyde E. Gibson and Olga P. (Raasch) Gibson. He attended the Trinity Lutheran School until the 7th grade. He graduated from Norborne High School in 1959. Ron attended the University of Missouri before returning home to farm.

Ron married Linda L. (Brenneman) Gibson on May 14, 1961, in Norborne. They celebrated 61 years of marriage this year.  They had two children, Todd A. Gibson (Sharon) of Norborne, and Stacey S. Steffens (deceased 6/5/2017). Together, they have four grandchildren, Colin Steffens, Independence, Cassidy Steffens, Columbia, Samantha Turner (Sam), Ashland, and Seth Gibson, O’Fallon, IL; and two great-grandchildren, Sterling and Sutton Turner.

Ron was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church where he held many offices over the years. He was President of the Norborne School Board and active in the community. Ron’s passion for farming, especially soybeans, led him to hold many leadership positions with the Missouri Soybean Association, American Soybean Association, and Mid Missouri Energy, where he was an original member. He also held positions on the Ray County Levee & Drainage District and Ray-Carroll Levee District.

When Ron wasn’t farming or promoting soybean production you would find him hunting or fishing. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with friends and family.  Ron was also (to his great grandson’s delight) a collector of toy John Deere tractors.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Stacey Steffens; a sister, Betty Davis; and a brother, Billy Gibson.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Norborne Trinity Church or the Norborne FFA. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190 Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Saturday Sept. 17, 2022, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Norborne, with visitation at 9:30 a.m. with services to follow at 11 a.m.  Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne will oversee arrangements.
