Robert Thomas “Bob” McCorkendale, 73, of Hardin passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, at North Kansas City Hospital. Bob was born Feb. 11, 1951, in Carrollton, the son of Harold L. and Evelyn (Alexander) McCorkendale. He was united in marriage to Diana “Christy” Due of Richmond on April 27, 1991. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include his daughter, Sarah McCorkendale of Richmond; and brother, Doug (Anna Marie) Cron of Kansas City, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Denny McCorkendale.
Bob was raised and educated in Hardin, graduating in 1969 from Hardin-Central High School. During his school years, he enjoyed playing football, a sport he loved deeply. Later in life, he discovered a passion for golfing and cherished the time spent on the course with his friends.
Bob was a pillar of the community, serving as the director of Ideal Industries, a sheltered workshop in Richmond supporting the Ray County area, for more than 30 years. During his tenure, he earned numerous awards and proclamations for his exceptional leadership and dedication. He also was the beloved mayor of Hardin for 18 years, where his vision and commitment made a lasting impact.
A true advocate for individuals with special needs, Bob was known for his compassion and people-centered approach. When not working or dedicating himself to improving his community, he enjoyed traveling, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and celebrating Christmas, his favorite time of year.
Bob had a gift for humor, always sharing jokes and bringing laughter and smiles to those around him.

Funeral services were scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation was scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, at the funeral home. Interment was to be in Richmond Memory Gardens.
