Robert LeRoy “Bob” Nichols, 79, of Richmond, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2020, at home.

Bob was born on Dec. 3, 1940, in Chamois, the son of Hershel F. Nichols and Clara Augusta (Boss) Nichols.

He was united in marriage to Marilyn Sue Blankenship of Hardin on Nov. 27, 1970. She survives the home.

Survivors include: a daughter, Kristina (Jeff) Rechtermann of Hardin; and a son, Kevin (Amanda) Nichols of Richmond; three grandchildren, Austin Rechtermann, Alyssa Rechtermann and Taylee Nichols; two stepgrandchildren, Tatum McGlothlin and Taylor McGlothlin; two brothers, Donnie (Linda) Nichols of Richmond and Cecil Nichols of Liberty; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bob moved from Chamois to Camden in 1958 and graduated in 1959 from Richmond High School. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Richmond. Bob retired from MoDOT in Richmond in 2003 after working 30 years.

Bob enjoyed going to auctions, garage sales, shopping for his wife and plowing gardens for people around town. He never met a stranger and enjoyed visiting with the local merchants.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hardin First Baptist Church or donor’s choice. They may be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St., -P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation and funeral services took place on Wednesday, Oct. 21, with visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11, at Thurman Funeral Home of Richmond. Burial followed at Richmond Memory Gardens.
