Phyllis Roberta Maidment, 86, of Independence, passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at her home.

Phyllis was born on May 6, 1935 in Camden the daughter of Frank and Mabel (Duncan) Neal. She was united in marriage Jimmy Junior Maidment of Orrick on November 16, 1951; he preceded her in death on September 25, 2016.

Survivors include: son, Steve Maidment of Independence ; daughter, Stephanie Maidment of Prairie Village, KS; and grandson, Shane Phillips of NC.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Frankie Neal and sisters, La Donna Lawrence and Nancy Smith.

Phyllis was reared and educated in Camden graduating in the class of 1954. She was a minister’s wife helping with church programs, youth choir, and playing piano at the church for Sunday services. Phyllis also worked for forty years for Creative World Preschool starting out as a teacher working her way up to vice president. She enjoyed decorating for the holidays, loved getting together with family, friends and church members.  She enjoyed all kinds of music and she loved to cook.  

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Kansas City Hospice. Memorial contributions can always either be dropped off or mailed in care of the family to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 E. Main St. – P.O Box 190, Richmond, 64085

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. with services to follow at 11:00 a. m.
