Pauline Elizabeth Karl, 95, of Richmond passed away Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024, at Valley Manor in Excelsior Springs.
Pauline was born April 20, 1929, in Clinton, the daughter of Walter B. and Sally Ann (Chowning-Phillips) Evans.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth “Preach” Karl on Aug. 1, 1953, in St. Joseph. He preceded her in death on July 10, 2015.
Survivors include her stepson, Kenneth W. Karl; and three grandchildren, Michael R. Karl, Robert Karl and Brandon Karl. Other survivors include five great-grandchildren, Kayla Nibarger, Tucker Karl, Brodie Karl, Kayleigh Karl and Michaela Karl; and three great-great-grandchildren, Cayden Nibarger, Blaine Nibarger and Hadley Nibarger.
In addition to her parents and husband, Pauline was preceded in death by two sisters, Ova Pauline Karl
Duncan and Helen Kennedy; and two brothers, Russell Phillips and Vaughn Evans.
Pauline dedicated much of her life to her career and her family. She worked for National Bellas Hess, Fall Springs and Lake City before finding her long-term role at Weary’s Variety Store in Richmond, where she worked for 20 years. Pauline then continued her career at Cordray Supply, retiring after 12 years of dedicated service in 1981.
Pauline was more than just a hard-working individual; she was a beloved figure in her community, often referred to as “Mom” or “MeMe” by many who knew her. Her nurturing spirit and open heart made her a cherished friend and confidante to countless people. Pauline’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering support will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Pauline will lie in state from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
