The Richmond News, Jan. 10, 2025

Patty Ann (Briant) Dunwoodie, 87, of Camden died Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. Patty was born Aug. 18, 1937, in Ray County, the daughter of Vern and Helen (Davis) Briant. She was united in marriage to Richard Orial Dunwoodie of Camden on Oct. 7, 1955. He preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 2021. Survivors include her four children, Donna Jo Dunwoodie of Richmond, Michael Ray (Chris) Dunwoodie of Camden, Karen Sue (Stuart) Thomas of Blue Springs and Roy Dean (Teresa) Dunwoodie of Richmond.

Other survivors include 15 grandchildren: Chad (Wendy) Coldwell, Tammy Jo Prouty (Brad Hudson), Michael Dunwoodie II, Sabrina (Brian) Clayton, Abby Walters, Kallie Yarbro, Shelby Hobbs, Jodee Thomas, Jeremy Thomas, Jordan Gooch, Adam (Shelby) Dunwoodie, Alex (Johnna) Dunwoodie, Cody Gilbert, Dakota (Joely) Peel and Sadie (Brett) Benefiel. She also is survived by 24 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Mitch; and sister-in-law, Leona.

Patty graduated in 1955 from Richmond High School. Her classmates predicted she would spend her life surrounded by children, and that’s exactly what she did. Her house was always full of kids, and she never said no to anyone who needed a sitter.

Patty loved being a mom and grandmother. Every spring, her yard came alive with beautiful flowers, followed by a garden full of vegetables she canned for family and friends.

Patty’s favorite place in the house was her porch swing. From that swing, she could watch the farmers work in the bottoms, listen to their conversations on the CB radio and wave at people as they headed home to their families after a long workday.

Momma, we will miss you. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to The Humane Society and Camden Methodist Church. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation and funeral services will be held Monday, Jan. 13, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and services to follow at 2. Burial will be in the Cravens Cemetery east of Camden.
