Myrna L. Rowan, 81, of Richmond, died Sunday, June 13, 2021, at Liberty Hospital.

Myrna was born on Sept. 27, 1939, in Camden, the daughter of Harry Lee and Alma Mae “MeMe” (Compton) Waller.  She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Carl Allen Rowan of Knoxville on Mar. 29, 1959; he survives of the home.

Additional survivors include two sons, Robert (Nancy) Rowan and Roger Rowan, both of Knoxville; four grandchildren, Daniel “Danny” (Jamie) Rowan, Jeff (Megan) Rowan, Megan (Josh) Rives, and Kaitlyn Rowan; five great-grandchildren, Noah Rowan, Jack Rowan, Mars Rowan, Adilyn Rives, and Colin Rives; sister, Esther Simmons of Richmond; and several special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Charles Simmons.

Myrna was reared and educated in the area of her birth.  She attended Camden School from Kindergarten to 11th grade, until Camden School closed.  She then graduated from Richmond High School in 1957.  After high school, she worked as a secretary at the Richmond High School for the Superintendent, until 1971. Myrna was a farm wife, homemaker, gardener, cook, bookkeeper, matriarch, and jack-of-all-trades for her family.  She was the glue that held everything together. Myrna loved gardening, reading books, crafting, garage sales, auctions, canning, and country music.  She was a very caring person and always selfless, taking care of everyone more than herself.  Myrna especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; they called her “Ma” out of affection.  She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Kincaid Cemetery or the donor’s choice.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 12:30 p.m., with services to follow at 1:30 p.m.  Burial will be in Kincaid Cemetery, Knoxville.  Please remember to share your memories of Myrna with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
