Katherine graduated in 1962 from Richmond High School and attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, where she obtained her bachelor’s degree in biology. Katherine student-taught in several places before she became a biology teacher in the Kansas City school district. After 30-plus years of service, she retired and moved down home to Richmond.

Katherine loved the Lord and studied the scriptures daily. During her teaching years, she was a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Kansas City. Upon retirement, she attended the Richmond Second Baptist Church. When her oldest sister no longer could perform her duties as church clerk, Katherine stepped in. Katherine remained an active participant at the Second Baptist Church faithfully until the end.

Katherine was a beloved teacher and an inspiration to all who knew her well. She loved to teach and thought that everyone should be lifelong learners. When her youngest sister passed, Katherine created a scholarship fund for high school graduates that needed assistance to further their education.
