Joy LaVerne Dorton, 95, of Richmond, formerly of Orrick, died Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Joy was born on June 19, 1927, in Enid, OK.  She was united in marriage to James Thomas “Bud” Dorton of Orrick on May 18, 1946; he preceded her in death on August 20, 2010. Survivors include: two daughters, Phyllis Jeffries of Orrick and Barbara Hutchings of Richmond daughter-in-law, Cathy Dorton of Cordova, TN; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, James (Stanley) Dorton, and two sons-in-law, Bill Jeffries, and Kenny Hutchings. Joy was reared and educated in the area of her birth.  She was a longtime resident of Orrick and moved to Richmond in November of 2010.  Joy worked at Laverne’s Beauty Shop on Front Street in Orrick for many years.  She was a member of the Orrick United Methodist Church.  Joy loved cooking and was known for her cinnamon rolls and bread pudding; During Christmas time, she always made plenty of cinnamon rolls.  She also enjoyed canning anything she could, especially fresh fruits and vegetables.  Joy will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
