Jimmy June Smith
Jimmy June Smith, 84, of Richmond, passed away Monday, July 19, 2021, at his home.
Jim was born on November 27, 1936, in Henrietta, the son of James E. and Darlene (Harrison) Smith, the third of four children. He was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Fairchild of Lexington, on June 27, 1969; she survives of the home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Lura Lee Harshner and Donna Darlene Hughes, brother, Duane Smith, and stepson, Kerry Lee Watts.
Jim is survived by his son, Randy J. Smith of Richmond; daughter and son-in-law, Tanya G. and Gregory Richards of Richmond; five grandchildren: Amber Smith, Kade Belcher, Collin Dorton, Logan Watts, and Kali Watts; and great-grandson, Kash Smith.
Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henrietta. He lived his entire life in Ray County. Jim grew up and was raised in Henrietta. That is where he attended school and graduated. His senior year had his most fond memory. He loved to play basketball and in one game that year, he scored 31 points, which helped him earn a scholarship to Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg.
Jim worked at Lake City, working up to a Sr. A Clerk, after which he went to work as a Millwright at Automatic Systems, building conveyors. He loved to hunt, fish, and raise bird dogs, which he was very good at training. He also loved the music by Elvis Presley and collected all of his music. He was lucky enough to get to see him perform in both Kansas City, and in Las Vegas, NV. He loved the trips to Memphis, TN, to see Graceland and was lucky enough to meet Elvis’s uncle Vestor, his dad’ brother.
