Jane Williams

Jane R. Williams, 96, of Richmond passed away Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, at Oak Ridge Assisted Living in Richmond. She was born Sept. 26, 1927, in Bogard in Carroll County to Leslie S. and Ethlyn (Bowman) White. She graduated from Norborne High School and attended Central Missouri State in Warrensburg. She taught in area schools. On June 11, 1950, she married Edward V. Williams of Norborne. They moved to a farm near Henrietta, where they lived for 56 years. They raised two sons, who live in Richmond: John and Sandra Williams, and Tom and Renea Williams.

Jane was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Ray County Historical Society, Ray County Genealogical Society and the Ray County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She also was a member of the Camden United Methodist Church. She devoted time to the 1973 Ray County History Book and to the organization of the Ray County Health Center.

Survivors are the sons and the grandchildren: Robert (Carleigh) Williams, Samantha (Adam) Booth, Stephanie (Jeff) Boguskie and Denton Williams. Other survivors include her great-grandchildren: Isabella Smith, Parker Williams, Brady Boguskie, Jocie Williams, Walker Williams, Kameryn Williams and Benjamin Booth. Her sister, Billie Goll of Cameron, also survives.

Three brothers, Robert White, W.L. “Dub” White and Louis White, preceded her in death. Her mother died in 1931, when Jane was 4 years old.

Her father later married Margaret Kelly, who raised the children and died in 1990. Leslie White died in 1953.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Richmond Beautification Club or the Ray County 4-H. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation and funeral services were scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 18, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m., followed by the services at 2. Burial was to be in Machpelah Cemetery, Lexington.
