After a year at Missouri University, she worked as a bookkeeper, soon opening her own business.  Her desire to be an educator led her to earn three degrees from the University of Central Missouri while she was working fulltime. She taught sixth grade at Belton, then became principal of the 7-12 building in LaMonte and was serving as principal of Richmond Middle School when she became ill.  She was loved by her students and those with whom she worked.

Jana was an avid fisherman and spent many hours on Truman Lake with her sister and brother-in-law.  She was a devoted MU fan attending many games and filling her closet with MU sweatshirts.

Jana was also devoted to her family always remembering birthdays and other celebrations.

She was preceded in death by her father, Glenn Miller; and her grandparents, Glenn and Martha Miller and Vernon and Maud Kennedy.

She is survived by her daughter, Leigh Ann Edwards; mother, Carole Kennedy; brother, Jim Miller and wife Mardi; sister, Christy Pius and husband Ed; uncle, Jack Miller; nieces, Meagan Fansler, Sarah Meier, and Jessica Pius; nephews, Robert Miller and Justin Pius; as well as great-nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by a host of cousins and many good friends.

A private graveside memorial service will be held at Mendon Cemetery in Mendon, MO.  Jim Rogers will officiate the service.  No visitation will be held.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Ms. Fleck’s Student Recognition Fund. Donations may be left at or mailed to Breshears Memorial Chapel, 207 W. Broadway, Brunswick, MO, 65236.
