The Richmond News, June 7, 2024 Helen Jones Helen C. (McGuire) Jones, 93, longtime civic and church leader in Parsons, Kan., passed away at 10:20 a.m. Friday, May 31, 2024, at her home. Death followed a brief period of failing health. She was the widow of Glenn Jones, a Parsons attorney. He preceded her in death on Jan. 7, 1985. Helen was born May 1, 1931, at Hardin to Samuel H. and Hester E. (Oxley) McGuire. She graduated in 1949 from Hardin High School, earned a bachelor’s degree in 1953 from the University of Missouri and a master’s degree in 1954 from the University of Alabama. She also did advanced graduate work at several other universities. Helen joined the faculty at the University of Miami in Florida, teaching home economics. After a few years at Miami, she returned to Missouri and took a job with garment manufacturer Stevie Togs Inc. in Lenexa, Kan., as a designer consultant.
