and began barber school the next Monday.

Harvey worked as a barber first in Claycomo, and later, on the Liberty square for six decades. In 1954, he went to work at Paul Mitchell’s shop on Kansas Street and later worked for Riley Dill.

In 1971, Harvey purchased the shop from Riley and operated Harvey’s Barber Shop in the same location until he retired in 2013. Harvey’s was not only a place for a great haircut, but also for conversation about all things Liberty.

Harvey was a masterful storyteller, as well as a concerned friend and confidant to often multiple generations of customers. He knew no stranger and was always ready to help a friend in need.

On Dec. 8, 1975, Harvey married the love of his life, his wife Susi, and they worked alongside each other at the shop for 35 years.

Harvey was active in the Liberty community and a supporter of the Liberty Blue Jays. He was a lifetime member of the Second Baptist Church and served the past 39 years as Liberty constable.

Along with his parents, Harvey was preceded in death by his wife, Susi; siblings, Norma James and Billy Seely; and grandson, Jacob Sallee.

Harvey’s family includes his daughters, Cathy Helton (Eddie), Cindy Seely and Julie Kramer (Eric); seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-greatgrandchildren, two nieces, a nephew and their families; and countless friends. He will be missed.

Visitation was scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., followed by a service celebrating his life at 2, on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at Park Lawn Northland Chapel, Interstate Highway 35 at Missouri Highway 291, Liberty.

Burial was to follow at Glenridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Second Baptist Church, Liberty. You may share a message with Harvey’s family or sign an online guest book via www.parklawnfunerals.com.
