Gail Deann Fernandez, 59, of Richmond died on Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, after a hard-fought battle with cancer at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Gail was born on Sept. 10, 1963, in Richmond, the daughter of Jack and Freda (Ralston) Hayson. She was united in marriage to Donald R. Fernandez of Richmond on April 17, 2008. He survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: her son, Aaron Alexander of Gladstone; two daughters, Brandi Alexander of Carrollton and Deanna Rose Fernandez of Mulberry, Kan.; four grandchildren, Baylee Crispen, Holly Wilson, Gamble Alexander and Axle Lee Chase; and brother, Jack Hayson of Richmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Vicki Ritchie.

Gail was reared and educated in the area of her birth. In addition to raising her family, she enjoyed crocheting and made lots of things for her grandchildren. Gail enjoyed watching epic old movies, like “The Ten Commandments” and Westerns.

She worked as a nurse’s aide at Shirkey in Richmond and at Remington in Lexington.

Gail was of the Christian faith and enjoyed attending Calvary Chapel in Liberty with her sister-in-law. Her biggest joy was her grandchildren.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Gail Fernandez Memorial Fund. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Woodland Cemetery, Richmond. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.
