Edna Lorena McCrary, 89, of Excelsior Springs, died Saturday, July 31, 2021, at her daughter’s home.

Edna was born on January 17, 1932, on her family farm in Clay County, the daughter of Riley Woodson and Lorena (Scott) Turner.  Edna was united in marriage to Floyd Wallace McCrary of Excelsior Springs on May 21, 1949; he preceded her in death on July 19, 2006.

Survivors include: 5 daughters, Brenda (Tom) Lewis of Topeka, KS, Glenda (Dan) Powell of Excelsior Springs, Dianna (Bruce) Cornwell of Oak Grove, Lois (Mike) Hamilton of Wood Heights, and Nancy (Larry) Hicks of Higginsville; 17 grandchildren, Tim (Roxanne) Watts, Kelli (Terry) Schmidt, Kris (Tim) Gerhardt, Angela Dawn Easley, Kimberly (Lamondo) Wyrick, Belinda Wall, Jared (Michelle) Cornwell, Melinda (Brian) Peck, Devin Sisk (Michael Lewis), Joshua (Jennifer) Sisk, Charles Hayter, Tiffany (Randy) Thornton, Jenifer (Jesse) Schooley, Jason Hicks, Felecia Cartee, Stephianie (Ryan) Farrow, and Jessica (Daniel Hatch) Hicks; 47 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren and two on the way.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Rhonda K. McCrary, three brothers, R.W. Turner, Ancil Turner, Kenneth Turner, and sister Orpha Westfall.

Edna was reared and educated in the area of her birth, first attending Clevenger Elementary, then graduating from Excelsior Springs High School in the class of 1949.  In her yearbook she stated, “two great interests in life, one to graduate, the other to settle down to the married life.”  Edna was a housewife and homemaker.  She was the matriarch and caregiver for all of her family.  Edna was a faithful member of the Pisgah Baptist Church and if she couldn’t attend, she would watch it on TV.  She loved horses, trail rides, and liked to travel.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Excelsior Springs Pisgah Baptist Church.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Friday, August 6, 2021, at Pisgah Baptist Church, Excelsior Springs, with visitation beginning at 10:00 A.M., with services to follow at 11:00 A.M.  Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Excelsior Springs.  Please share your memories of Edna with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
