Dotti Jane (Skaggs) Pierson, 74, of Richmond passed away Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023, at Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington. Dotti was born Sept. 15, 1949, in Brookfield to Nina and Glen Skaggs. She grew up in Brunswick and was the baby of four children, including her sisters, Lyndell and Phyllis; and brother, Glen (Butch). Dotti was adored by all that knew her from the day she was born. One of her biggest admirers, her father, built “Dotti Delight Drive-In” in the late 1950s in Brunswick.

Dotti graduated in 1967 from Brunswick High School, where she was a varsity cheerleader, drum majorette, twirler, school vice president and homecoming queen.

After high school, Dotti began a long, successful career as a flight attendant (hostess) for TWA, where she flew for more than 33 years, before retiring in 2002. During her years flying, she earned several distinguished honors, including the TWA Award of Excellence, and was one of six chosen among 600 in the Kansas City area. She also was awarded a lifetime achievement award for perfect attendance throughout her career.

In 1979, Dotti became reacquainted with Ronnie Pierson on a special flight, and they soon began dating. Dotti married Ron and his three young children, Eric, Jill and Patrick, on Nov. 22, 1980. They were united in marriage for 43 years until Ron’s death in June of 2023 – just four months prior to Dotti’s passing. Dotti was considered their “angel on earth,” as she had the kindest, most selfless, loving soul and always considered the kids her own.

She worked hard at balancing her job and being a farmer’s wife, but she always put her family first. She took on the role of wife, mother and grandmother with pride as she loved with all her heart and was devoted to raising her three children. She was one of a kind.

Dotti is survived by her three children, Eric Pierson, Jill Courter (Adam) and Patrick Pierson (Tracy); eight grandchildren, Paige Utley (Sean), Lexi Pierson, Kain Pierson, Katherine Pierson, Josie Pierson, Molly Pierson, Kendal Courter and Pierson Courter; three siblings, Lyndell King (Wayne), Glen Skaggs (Ida) and Phyllis Feil (Carl); and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

Dotti was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; and her parents, Nina and Glen Skaggs.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Dotti Jane Pierson Memorial Fund. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Graveside services will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 4, 2023, in Fairhaven Cemetery, Norborne. A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at 10186 Airfield Lane, Richmond. All are welcome!!!
