Christopher Wayne “Chris” Brenton, 52, of Richmond, died unexpectedly from complications of cancer, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, August 11, 2021, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Chris was born on January 5, 1969, in Terre Haute, IN, the son of Estel Lee and Judith Ann (Kesling) Brenton.  He was united in marriage to Jennifer Kay Reeves of Richmond on July 25, 2009; she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: two sons, Tyler Brenton of Overland Park and Nathan (Lexie) Hosman of Moberly; daughter, Sydney Hosman of the home; brother, Bryan (Melinda) Brenton of North Carolina; two sisters, Angela Jordan and Shannon Brenton, both of Independence; four nieces: Cory Knight, Brandy Woody, Amy Love, and MaKayla Ray; nephew, Jerrett Love; several great-nieces and nephews and one great-great-nieces; and his faithful companion, Sampson.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Chris attended high school in Marian, IL.  While in high school, he was active in all sports, including football, basketball, baseball, and track.  After high school, he attended college in Carbondale, IL, where he played college baseball.

Chris was a proud active-duty member of the Missouri Army National Guard.  In 1990, Chris joined the United States Army on Active-Duty Status, where he served as an Airborne Infantryman.  During Chris’ 10-year Active-Duty service, he attended multiple military schools, including Airborne School, Combat Lifesaver School and Multiple Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development course.  He also served in Operation Desert Storm where he was awarded the Southwest Asia Service Medal and the Kuwait Liberation Medal.  In 2000, Chris left Active-Duty.  In 2013, Chris joined the Missouri Army National Guard where he served until his passing.  While in the National Guard, Chris served with his son, Nathan Hosman, in the Richmond, Mo based 1135th Engineer Company. During Chris’ 18-year military career, he was awarded multiple military awards for his faithful service and dedication to his country. Those awards include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Ribbon, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Expert Infantry Badge and Army Parachutist Badge. Chris’ passion in the military was training his fellow Soldiers so that they were prepared for their mission in protecting the United States of America.

Chris, when not on active duty, worked for the post office in Lexington, and was a master at tile installation.  Chris was of the Christian faith and attended the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty.  He loved the outdoors, especially goose and duck hunting, enjoyed fishing.  He enjoyed golfing, especially with his buddies from Fort Leonard Wood on their weekly Wednesday night outings.  He was a loving husband, father, good friend, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
