Carol Jones

Carol Sue Jones, 83, of Richmond passed away Aug. 29, 2024. Born June 30, 1941, in Siloam Springs, Ark., Carol was the loving daughter of William E. Phillips Sr. and Marie (Guthery) Phillips. She grew up alongside her two siblings, William E. Phillips Jr. and Barbara Ann (Phillips) Thurman. Carol dedicated her life to caring for others, starting as a medical aide in a doctor’s office in North Kansas City. Her exceptional skills and work ethic propelled her to roles as a bookkeeper at Cliff Manor, and eventually, administrator at Windemere Nursing Home, where she concluded her career. Her leadership, empathy and kindness touched countless lives throughout her journey.

Carol’s greatest joy was her family. She became a mother in 1961 to her daughter, Cathy R. (Foote) Hurtubise; and a year later, her son, Ernie J. Foote, was born. She cherished every moment with her children and was proud of the people they became.

In 1972, she met her second husband, Howard, by a mutual friend. One of their first dates was an unforgettable high-speed dune buggy ride around the hills of North Kansas City. After just three months of being inseparable, they married and shared a loving partnership for 51 years.

Carol and Howard cherished their winter escapes to South Padre, Texas, where they soaked up the sun and sea. Carol’s creative side flourished through her hobbies, including beachcombing for shells and painting. She took great joy in creating and selling various works of art, leaving behind a legacy of beauty and joy.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; and beloved husband, Howard.

She is survived by her loving family, including her children, Cathy and Ernie; grandchildren, Jeff (Nikki) Foote and Roger Hurtubise III; great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Alexis and Elijah Foote; and her dear confidant and sister-in-law, Gwen Eppenauer.
