Carl Allen Rowan, 82, of Richmond, died Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at North Kansas City Hospital.

Carl was born on November 27, 1938, on his family’s farm, near Knoxville, the son of Ray Lester and Zella (Travillion) Rowan.  He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Myrna L. Rowan, of Richmond on March 29, 1959; she preceded him in death on June 13, 2021.

Survivors include: two sons, Robert (Nancy) Rowan and Roger Rowan, both of Knoxville; four grandchildren: Daniel “Danny” (Jamie) Rowan, Jeff (Megan) Rowan, Megan (Josh) Rives, and Kaitlyn Rowan; five great-grandchildren: Noah Rowan, Jack Rowan, Mars Rowan, Adilyn Rives, and Colin Rives; brother, Calvin Rowan of Knoxville; sister, Rose (Burrill) Rader of Yorkville, IL; sisters-in-law, Esther Simmons and Mary Ann Rowan, both of Richmond, and Sue Rowan of Florida; and several special nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Paul Rowan and Robert “Bob” Rowan, sister, Mary Brubeck, and brother-in-law, Charlie Simmons.

Carl was reared and educated in the area of his birth, first attending the Marion grade school in Knoxville, then graduating from the Richmond High School.  Ever since he was a young child, he wanted to be a farmer.  After high school, he started his farming career and worked for the Ray-Carroll Coop and in the press room at the Richmond News.   While farming, Carl raised row crops, hogs, and cattle; working on the farm was his passion.  He raised quality livestock and farmed his entire life with pride.  He loved to mow hay and was an expert at it; not even his sons could get it just right.  Carl was a gentle giant and a kindhearted man who enjoyed going to Country music shows with his wife, playing cards, fishing, and going out to eat fried chicken.  He loved spending time with his family and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up, who affectionately called him “Pa.”  Carl was known to be a bit of a teaser, which just meant he liked you.

A special thanks to North Kansas City Hospital Outpatient Infusion Team and all the ICU doctors and nurses for their excellent care.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Kincaid Cemetery or the donor’s choice.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
