Bret Bowman

Bret Allen Bowman, 56, of Richmond passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2024, at his home. Bret was born April 10, 1968, in Fallon, Nev., the son of Donald R. “Butch” and Denise L. (Richards) Bowman. He was united in marriage to Johnna Holman of Hardin on Dec. 7, 2008. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include his mother, Denise Bowman of Richmond; daughter, Brooke, and son-in-law, Ethan Stark, of Kansas City; and two grandchildren, Crew and Myles Stark. He also leaves behind his sister, Ellen (Troy) Vandiver of Richmond; nephew, Kanon (Haley) Franklin of Richmond; two nieces, Mackenna (Dylan) Caldwell of Richmond and Violet Price of Oceanside, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Angela (Thomas) Price of Oceanside.

Bret was preceded in death by his father. Bret graduated in 1986 from Richmond High School. He was the owner and operator of Bowman Plumbing for 20 years.

He enjoyed collecting guns and participating in threegun competitions.

Bret’s favorite place was at home, often relaxing in the hot tub with Johnna, tinkering around in his shed or mowing the lawn with a Busch Light in hand.

Bret was an amazing husband, stepfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. His most beloved title of all was “Papa,” as he was known by his grandchildren, Crew and Myles.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Mack Attack, benefitting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Contributions can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

A celebration of life will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Shirkey’s 19th Hole, 901 Wollard Blvd., Richmond. Come have a drink and celebrate Bret. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.

Inurnment will be held at a later date by the family.
