Billie Karyn Hampton, 78, of Richmond, formerly of Hardin, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2023, at North Kansas City Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Billie was born Jan. 15, 1945, in Excelsior Springs, the daughter of Byrel D. and Idelle Ruth (Eubanks) Oster.

She was united in marriage to Alfred Clifton “Junior” Hampton of Hardin on Sept. 4, 1965. He preceded

her in death on April 4, 2004.

Survivors include her three sons, Timothy C. (Tammy) Hampton of Kansas City, Aaron Anthony “Tony” (Heather) Hampton of Blue Springs and Thomas A. (Angie) Hampton of St. Louis. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren: Joseph Clifton (Kristen) Hampton, Jacob Riley Hampton, Luke Thomas Hampton, Matthew Andrew Hampton, Mark Christopher Hampton and Lily Marie Hampton, all of St. Louis; Kelsey Ryan Hampton of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.; Haley Roseanne Hampton of Gladstone; and Mason Lesh and Gage Lesh, both of Blue Springs. Four great-grandchildren, Faith, LaBella, Arthur IV and Nassiah Bivines; and a brother, Nicholas (Kathy) Oster of Richmond, also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Billie was reared and educated at Stet and graduated from Stet High School. After high school, she attended Central Missouri State in Warrensburg, then attended William Jewel College in Liberty.

In addition to raising her family, she worked as a CNA for Ray County Memorial Hospital for 15 years.

Billie’s interests included sewing, attending her sons’ athletic events and spending time with her friends at the Hardin Mini-Mart, a weekly event. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hardin First Baptist Church. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at Hardin First Baptist Church. Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.
