Bernita Faye Carter, 91, a resident of Flagstaff, Ariz., and formerly of Richmond, passed away Sunday, Sept. 29, 2024.
Bernita was born Aug. 10, 1933, in Ray County, the daughter of Amos and Delka (O’Dell) Wrisinger.
She was married to Gene Franklin “Puny” Carter of Richmond on Nov. 27, 1949. He preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 2009.
Survivors include Rhonda Felkins of Flagstaff, Ariz.; Myra (Jim) Hibbs of Evansville, Ind.; and four grandchildren, Kelly (Evan) Anderson, Laryssa (Ronnie) George, Nettie (Phil) Dickey and Charlie (Crysta) Felkins.
Other survivors include six great-grandchildren, Tommy, Zachary, Kaeli, Zane, Miles and Alice; two stepgreat- granddaughters, Cheyenne and Allie Dickey; and three great-great-grandsons, Brayden, Elite and Reign.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Farrell Wrisinger and Larry Wrisinger; and special son-in-law, Steve Felkins.
Bernita worked at home and for Lake City in the quality department. She loved gardening, playing cards and growing flowers. Watching the Kansas City Chiefs play football was her favorite pastime. Most of all, she was devoted to loving her family.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Bernita Carter Memorial Fund. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home; 507 E. Main St.-P.O. Box 190; Richmond, MO 64085.
Visitation with funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 5, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. and the services beginning at 2. Interment will follow in Richmond Memory Gardens.
