Local storm-damaged salt storage building set for replacement
Richmond is moving forward with an $87,390 replacement for a salt storage building destroyed by a May windstorm.
City Council members recently approved an agreement with Greystone Construction Company for a 32-by-32-foot engineered fabric building at 1219 Hines Street that Public Works Director Dale Shipp said will provide a more substantial replacement for the city’s previous salt storage structure.
Shipp explained the previous building was used to store the city’s road salt and sand mixture before it was destroyed during the May storm. He said the former structure was less substantial than the planned replacement and had already required its fabric roof to be replaced twice.
The new building will include a perimeter block foundation, fabric cover and 8-foot-tall concrete barrier walls to contain the salt and sand.
