Wood makes return, Harris unscathed in crash at Central Missouri
WARRENSBURG – Independence Day marked the end of a long layoff for David Wood. From auto racing, that is.
That night, the Richmond-based driver placed 15th in the A-modified feature race and sixth in the B-modified feature at Central Missouri Speedway near Warrensburg. He estimated he had last raced in September 2019.
“It was mainly waiting to see … (when) the racetracks were going to open up, and I also work every other weekend. … I have to do this when … (it) fits my schedule,” Wood, a full-time welder and mechanic, said.
Returning to racing was “a little rough,” Wood acknowledged.
“The driver is not keeping up with the car very … (well). … My guys (pit crew), they’re working their butts off to get it going,” he said.
Wood was among a handful of Ray and Clay county drivers who raced Independence Day at Central Missouri. Another area driver was Daniel Harris of Excelsior Springs, who survived a scare while racing in a preliminary heat in the B-modified division. Attempting to move up…
