Women’s History Month celebrated
Women’s History Month — a celebration to recognize women’s contributions to society — started out as only a day in 1909, according to nationalgeographic. com. The day turned into a week in 1980 and into a month in 1987.
Every Women’s History Month has a theme and this year it is Celebrating Women Who Tell Our Stories. The National Women’s History Alliance “will encourage the recognition of women, past and present, who have been active in all forms of media and storytelling including print, radio, TV, stage, screen, blogs, podcasts, news and social media,” according to nationalwomenshistoryalliance. org.
Last year’s theme was “Women Providing Healing, Promoting Hope.” The theme honored the tireless work of caregivers and frontline workers during the Covid-19 pandemic – women of all backgrounds who have provided compassionate healing and hope for the betterment of patients, friends and family.
