Witness Whitmer’s grave dedication set Saturday
RICHMOND – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints will dedicate a new grave marker for David Whitmer at 10 a.m. Saturday in Richmond Cemetery.
The cemetery is 0.7 mile west of Highway 13 on Main Street on the north side of the road. The public is invited and there will be refreshments after the service.
A longtime Richmond resident, Whitmer operated a successful livery stable and became a prominent and respected citizen. He lived from 1805 to 1888 and won election in 1867 to fill an unexpired term as mayor. He is best known as one of the Three Witnesses of The Book of Mormon.
Although he became disaffected with the main body of the church in 1838, Whitmer never renounced his testimony of The Book of Mormon.
