Virus naughty, but Santa still nice during annual Candy Cane Lane
RICHMOND – The Annual Candy Cane Lane occurred differently this holiday season, with volunteers holding the event at Oak Ridge of Richmond.
Volunteers united to brighten the holiday season for children prevented by the coronavirus, COVID-19, from visiting Santa at stores and other locations. Oak Ridge provided a drive-through opportunity for children to see Santa without making contact, event volunteer Sharon Donat said.
A newspaper employee and member of the Richmond Rotary Club, Donat said the Richmond Economic Partnership and Kiwanis helped make the event possible.
“We’re going to be handing out goody bags,” she said.
Bags contained Crayons, coloring books, candy, coupons and small toys, with some of the items coming from the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Missouri Farm and Home and McDonald’s, Donat said.
Children also had the opportunity to drop off letters to Santa.
