Trial moves forward for one, stalled for another in 2021 shooting case

While one defendant waits to learn if his charges will be thrown out over missing evidence, a Kansas City man accused in the same 2021 shooting case is now scheduled to stand trial next spring in Ray County Circuit Court. Jaylen D. Webb is charged with 11 offenses tied to a July 20, 2021, incident investigated by the Richmond Police Department (RPD). His charges include first-degree robbery; two counts of first-degree assault or attempted; firstdegree assault or attempted with serious physical injury or a special victim; three counts of armed criminal action; unlawful use of a weapon for allegedly shooting from a motor vehicle resulting in injury; first-degree kidnapping; third-degree assault; and conspiracy to commit a class A, B, or C felony. Webb’s five-day jury trial is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on March 16, 2026, before Eighth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Kevin L. Walden. A pre-trial conference is set for 2 p.m. on Nov. 5.
