Towing disputes lead to draft resolution

Disputes and complaints involving towing services in Ray County continue to surface as officials weigh possible changes to county policy. Commissioners addressed those concerns at a recent meeting while reviewing a draft resolution. The draft towing resolution was shared with towing operators and commissioners as a working document intended to outline possible standards for companies operating within Ray County. Officials stressed repeatedly the document is not finalized and should not be considered adopted policy. “I will reiterate, this is only a draft copy,” said Eastern Commissioner MaxHockemeier. “This is not a done deal because it’s not finished yet.” The draft resolution follows public comments made at a prior Ray County Commission meeting, where Cindy Shoemaker Hewitt and R&L Shoemaker Towing LLC Owners Roberta and Larry Shoemaker spoke during open comment about concerns involving towing practices in the county.
