Tow-truck concerns lead commissioners meeting

Concerns about tow-truck practices and a request for a new county ordinance dominated public comments during a recent meeting of the Ray County Commission, where residents urged leaders to create rules aimed at stopping wreck chasing and clarifying the way towing calls are dispatched. Cindy Shoemaker Hewitt told commissioners her family has operated R&L Shoemaker Towing LLC — a company owned by Larry and Roberta Shoemaker — since 1968. She said her family has become increasingly frustrated by issues involving another company using the same name. “You’re about to have another argument, fight, something on your hands that does not need to be,” said Hewitt.
