Nearly half of the U.S. population drinks tea daily. On Jan. 23, a chilly Saturday morning during National Hot Tea Month, the door swings open at Serendipity, 712 Wollard Blvd., Richmond. To the left is a chalkboard in three pieces that in size and shape resembles an Asian room divider. Each board boasts some of the many drinks available. In addition to a variety of hot and cold coffee blends and hot chocolate, there are teas. N Between tables, straight across the tile floor from the glass door, stands Kathy Fitzwater. She and daughter Maranda Oster co-own Serendipity. Fitzwater takes an order. Milk within the espresso machine whirs, frothing milk to blend with black tea to create chai latte.
