Study finds 911 building... ‘AT THE END OF ITS LIFE’

RICHMOND – A structural review supported what the 911 Board had already concluded – the present building at 102 W. North Main St. in downtown Richmond fails to meet present needs and modifications cannot solve all the problems. Review findings include the 911 building lacks a sprinkler and smoke alarm system; has roof, floor and foundation issues; and would not work as a storm shelter in an emergency. WSKF Architects completed the review at a cost of about $5,000, board President Paul Harris said. “We hired the architect to come in and do a thorough study to make sure the building was sound,” Harris said, “and what it would take to upgrade it.” The study opposed upgrades to address 911 structural needs. “At what point are you foolish to even try to put money back into it to do what it needs?” Harris asked.
