Students test zip lines, realize success

Dear Elementary students finalized their selfmade zip lines with the Engineering Design Process (EDP) this week. With technology teacher Brittany Vest at the helm, students made zip lines using various materials in class. Students were recently able to see the projects successfully completed and working as they should. Vest uses skills students develop in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), as well as computer science. The teacher believes STEM fosters creativity, builds resilience and strengthens problem-solving skills. “The most challenging part about these projects is the amount of time I have with the students. I only see each class for 50 minutes every six school days,” she said. “With the EDP we are to complete each step before moving on to the next. When you have a couple hundred five, six and seven-yearolds, it can be difficult to keep everyone on the same pace.
