State begins auditing Ray County

RICHMOND– The state is auditing Ray County offices. “We start the audit on Monday,” state Audit Manager Julie Moulden told the County Commission last week. “We plan to do audit and field work just like we normally would.” Unlike in neighboring Clay County, where residents petitioned for a special audit, the Ray County audit is routine. In Clay County, after two years, the special audit is not complete because of preventive legal action taken by two county commissioners; but they no longer hold office, their lawsuit has been dropped by the new commission and the process is advancing. Ray County’s audit is expected to take roughly six months to complete, Moulden told Ray County commissioners and several other officeholders who had gathered at the commission meeting to learn what the audit will entail. The work will include reviewing records and interviewing personnel, she said, with an emphasis on receipts, accounting and the supervision of funds in 2020. Much of the work will occur…
