JEFFERSON CITY – Ideal Industries Inc. and other sheltered workshops are expected to divide $4 million in Coronavirus Relief Fund money from the state. The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, or DESE, will create grant programs to distribute funds to workshops to lessen the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on workshop operations. “It’s just phenomenal,” Ideal Director Heather Pugh said. “Some pretty important stakeholders, including DESE, went to the table and advocated. ... I am so thankful that we have those state advocates that are working for us.” Funds will address pandemic-related costs. Workshops that closed or lost revenue as a result of COVID-19 will have access to business interruptionrelated financial assistance grants. For sheltered workshops that remained open for business, including Ideal, funding will be provided for the purchase of personal protective equipment and cleaning supplies.
