Sheriff stops inmate work program
Making waves in the community, Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers started the Inmate Work Program and stopped it — all in a span of five months.
“Due to complaints from the county’s prosecuting attorney, the sheriff’s office has halted the Inmate Work Program,” said Childers.
The crew worked on projects in the county at no charge to the recipient of the services. The program allowed Ray County Jail inmates the opportunity to work on outside projects, while supervised, as a volunteer for the betterment of those in need, Childers explained.
