JEFFERSON CITY – Concerns about the coronavirus hit closer to home, Sen. Denny Hoskins stated in his “Capitol Report.”

Hoskins made the statement after receiving confirmation of a case of COVID-19 in St. Louis. Several other confirmed cases followed, including in Kansas City.

“Due to an abundance of caution, the Missouri Senate will extend its annual spring recess,” Hoskins, whose Senate district includes Ray County, stated.

Leaders moved the recess, which had been scheduled to begin March 23, ahead to March 13.

Due to a requirement to meet a deadline for getting the state’s budget ready for approval, House members this week met to prepare the budget for passage.

“All Senate offices will be closed until March 30,” Hoskins stated. “My office staff will still be working and may be reached by phone or email.”

Hoskins reported the outbreak in Missouri, so far, has not gotten out of hand.

“So far, COVID-19 remains under control in Missouri, but everyone needs to take precautions to prevent the spread of it or any other virus,” he stated. “Other countries have shown the best approach to stopping the spread of the coronavirus seems to be limiting contact. Please stay home if you feel ill and, of course, wash your hands frequently.”
