WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR The respective quests for a national title in NCAA Division I FBS college football ended New Year’s Day for two Richmond High School graduates. Keyshaun Elliott, a 2022 graduate who plays linebacker for Arizona State University, saw his quest end with a 3931 double-overtime loss to the University of Texas at Austin in the Peach Bowl – a quarterfinal game in the College Football Playoff, a 12-team, single-elimination tournament. Elliott led the Sun Devils (113) in tackles in their season-ending defeat at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta with eight, including five solo tackles. The Sun Devils rallied to force overtime. Trailing 17-3 at halftime, they outscored the Longhorns 21-7 the second half. Both teams scored a touchdown and an extra-point kick during the first overtime. In the second overtime, the Longhorns (13-2) scored the final points on Quinn Ewers’ 25-yard TD pass to Gunnar Helm and a two-point conversion pass. Arizona State’s attempt to tie it again…
