Richmond Scouts embrace challenge, leadership at camp
Waking to the sound of reveille at 7 a.m. and closing the day with taps at 10 p.m., Richmond Boy Scout Troop 324 is spending 10 days this month immersed in tradition, teamwork and leadership development at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation near Osceola.
With 18 scouts and 15 adult leaders in attendance, the troop’s 2025 summer camp is more than just a yearly trip. For many, including 17-year-old senior Noah Rowan, it’s a defining part of growing up.
“This year the staff entertainment has been above and beyond and we’ve all really enjoyed it,” said Rowan, a seventh-year youth camper who spoke on behalf of the troop from Bartle.
Throughout the week, scouts work on a wide range of merit badges, with older boys mentoring younger ones. Rowan explained these daily efforts are where much of the individual and group development happens.
“We wake up at 7 a.m. with reveille call and end at 10 p.m. with taps,” stated Rowan. “We have merit badges and other activities all throughout the day…
