Richmond police adopt AI to speed up investigations

Richmond police will soon use artificial intelligence to speed up investigations and transcribe recorded evidence in minutes, a move Police Chief Scott Bagley called a major time-saver for his department. “You can upload four hours of video, basically write a summary narrative in 20 minutes,” said Bagley. “It’s something that’s new. It’s innovative.” Richmond City Council unanimously approved the purchase of the software, which will be paid for using a $2,000 donation from the Mushroom Festival. The AI tool is currently available at a promotional cost of $1,147.50. After the first year, the subscription will renew annually at $1,350, with future increases capped at 5% per year.
