Richmond man facing felony child molestation charge

A 34-year-old Richmond man has entered a plea of not guilty on one felony child sex abuse charge. Derek L. Darnell — facing a fourth-degree child molestation, child less than 17 years of age and offender greater than four years older charge — appeared before Eighth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Lori J. Baskins. Darnell obtained a private attorney, Andrew T. Christie, and will again appear in court at 9:30 a.m. on May 7. According to the probable cause statement written by Richmond Police Department (RPD) Detective Aaron Adkins, an alleged victim reported being molested by Darnell on Nov. 11, 2023. “In a written statement, the victim stated that approximately three weeks ago, the victim was at Darnell’s residence watching television and playing on their phone,” the report states. “The victim stated Darnell pulled the victim on top of him and touched their private area outside of their clothing.” An interview with the victim was later conducted with Synergy Services Interviewer…
