Richmond man donates 20’s plane materials to museums

Richmond resident Charles Mc-Corkendale, 92, donated all of his Kansas City Butler Manufacturing 1920s memorabilia to two historical places last week. His materials will be shown in Science City at Union Station of Kansas City and at the Kelch Aviation Museum of Brodhead, Wis. “We got into a conversation about the Butler Blackhawk planes, and we You-Tubed videos to see if one is still flying today,” said Charles’ brother Gary Mc-Corkendale. “These planes were only made in 1928 and stopped production in 1929 due to the economic crash.” Gary said Charles and he reached out to the Kelch Aviation Museum nearly three months ago to donate his materials and after much consideration, Kelch Museum Collections Manager Ami Eckard-Lee got in touch with Science City Exhibits Manager Travis Brown and his team.
