Richmond joins global safety effort
As Building Safety Month enters its second week, Richmond officials are urging residents to take an active role in keeping homes, schools and businesses structurally safe and environmentally responsible.
Observed globally each May, Building Safety Month is an international public awareness campaign spearheaded by the International Code Council (ICC) to increase understanding on the importance of safe construction practices, updated building codes and community resilience.
This year’s theme, “Game On!,” is meant to inspire teamwork between residents, local government and construction professionals.
“Building Safety Month is an international celebration that takes place in May to raise awareness about building safety,” said Community Development Director Lisa Hastings. “For the City of Richmond, it’s a vital opportunity to highlight how building safety affects everything from home construction to emergency preparedness.”
